UM6P is pleased to be part of the first global summit of U7 alliance alongside with 48 prestigious universities. An opportunity to reflect the major role that universities can play in order to address current social, economic and climate challenges.
U7 Alliance is a pioneering international alliance of universities aimed at structuring and advancing their role as global actors across the multilateral agenda. This summit was held in Paris on 9-10 July 2019, under the high patronage of Mr Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic.

The U7 Alliance was launched on June 5th. It forms a unique coalition for action through which the university presidents will take stock of their distinctive civic and social responsibility as global actors, and pledge commitments engaging their institutions for local, regional and global impact.

For the 2019 inaugural U7 Alliance Summit held in Paris, 50+ university presidents from 21 countries will work collectively on 5 major global challenges: the key role of universities in a global world; climate change, biodiversity and cleaner energy; inequality and polarized societies; technological transformations; and community engagement and impact.

International working groups bringing together universities from all regions are currently preparing for the summit. Ultimately, a dozen ambitious commitments shall be voted by the alliance, and announced by all presidents at the press conference. They will then be presented to President Macron, in the perspective of the broader G7 discussions to be undertaken in Biarritz end of August 2019.
